Craftmanship

I believe that a guitar is a balance between physics and aesthetics realised by craftsmanship. I have a deep-rooted passion and respect for the woods I am privileged to give a second life to as a musical instrument. I aim to do justice to the materials I use to achieve both the best aesthetic and acoustic performance I can. Design inspiration comes from the tonewood I use; no two sets of wood and therefore no two instruments are the same. I let the beauty of the wood speak both literally and metaphorically.

THE Luthier

My Story

I hand-build instruments that tell a story. My work carries the legacy of my father and grandfather’s cabinet-making workshops, and I still use their tools—some over a century old—to bring a spirit of timeless excellence to every guitar.

My fascination with lutherie began decades ago in the UK, watching lutes and violins take shape in local workshops. After thirty years of dreaming and five years of meticulous planning, I have spent the last fifteen years building bespoke guitars from my workshop in New Zealand.

I allow the natural beauty of the timber to speak, creating a one-of-a-kind playing experience in every commission.

"I still use their tools, some of which are over a hundred years old."
"My journey as a luthier can best be described as 30 in the dreaming, 5 years in the planning and now 15 years in the execution."

Guitar Models

My focus has been on refining the OM (Orchestra Model) acoustic guitar to celebrate the unmatched versatility, clear note separation, and ergonomic comfort of the design. Defined by a 15-inch lower bout and a slim, 4-inch body depth, it is a favorite among fingerstyle players and singer-songwriters.

I build with a long 14 fret 25.4-inch scale length, which increases string tension for better punch and projection. I build with the aim of delivering exceptional balance across the EQ frequency spectrum. You get clear, shimmery trebles, a punchy midrange, and a tight, focused bass without mud.

I work with clients in the choice of tonewoods to deliver the look you want to best enjoy your hand built instrument.

Your commission will be a unique, lasting partner in your musical journey.
